How To Spend Your "ME Time"
Updated: May 16, 2019
You could be a stay-at-home mum, a career orientated person or a Uni student, absolutely each of us needs some down time to themselves!
With Motherhood, marriage and family commitments, not to mention school work and everything in between it can be incredibly hectic to make time for yourself. Even if we do get a few moments to yourself, it can be hard to think of what to do to recuperate and relax.
Here are a few ideas on how you can spend your specially well deserved ‘me’ time!
Concentrate on your health & well-being
I think it is very important to invest in yourself. Whether it is an hour at the gym, doing a Yoga class or taking the dog for a walk, or meditating. Anything that contributes positively to your health is definitely worth it. At the end of the busy day I often light my scented candle with a relaxing scent like sandalwood jasmine or lemongrass. This relaxes me before my bedtime.
P.S - I absolutely love scented candles...LOL
Switch Off from Work
How many of us take our work into personal lives, especially when you work from home…I am talking about myself here😊. I find it very hard to let go and turn off sometimes.
I have been self-employed for the past 17yrs working from home and I’ve developed some self-discipline techniques that help me switch off and take a break, as relaxation is VITAL to be productive.
So, my daily “ME” time can be anything from 15 minutes to 30 minutes sometimes an hour if I am lucky😊, here are some examples what I do;
I sit out in the sun (get some Vit D into you – good for your bones) sometimes my dog is at my feet or I am just sitting and breathing, it is sort of like meditation without deep intention.
Watching my favorite TV show like Ellen! Who doesn’t love Ellen?
Going to the beach for a walk…I love walking on the beach after storm! Apparently, it is very good to walk on the sand after the storm.
Just Dancing for 30 min (no particular form or type) - more about movement of my body and just being in my body and feeling good.
Enjoying a bath…put some essential oil into the water for that special relaxation trick!
Having a nap on the weekend…you would be surprised what wonders a 30 min nap does to your body!
Playing tug-a-war with my dog
Watering the garden or potting a cutting of a plant
Hanging out with a friend (just “being” with them not necessarily doing anything specifically)”
How about some online shopping?
Shopping is just so much fun and awesome therapy to relax. And if you do not have to spend 20 minutes driving to the store and spend another 20 minutes looking for the car park spot then You are the Winner. This is a big reason why online shopping is so great!
Have Some Time to Yourself, Away From The Kids
Yes, run to the toilet, lock the doors and hide!
Well, if this was only so simple. As a parent myself, it can be very difficult almost impossible to get any ‘me’ time, as one child or the other always wants your attention for some reason…especially when you are on the phone!
As a mum it is so hard to find time to relax or rest, not to mention depending on the age of your child, you feel like you need to book a babysitter just to get dressed to go out!
Believe it or not but my favorite way to relax is to have a day at home and for many of us this day is often called the Pajama Day. No rushing, no drama, no deadlines. Just chill-out day.
It’s important, however, to find those moments to yourself, to relax or work towards your own personal goals. As I’m always on the go, I like to use the little me-time to do something productive just for me.
My me-time happens most often in the evening or when I get on my PC and either write a blog post for the Girls Fun Tours or do some research for the new tours I have in mind. Preparing a new itinerary gives me a little boost as I’ve managed to take time for my hobby while being productive.
My daughter is my whole world, but she recently got her driving licence so now she has become less dependent on me. I guess this gives me a little more “Me Time”, especially in the morning before the sunrise😊 I STRONGLY agree that sometimes you just need to get a little time to yourself in order to be the best mum you can be, as they say; Happy Mum = Happy Home
